I International Film Festival “Zerkalo” named after Andrei Tarkovsky
In the period from June, 6th till June, 13th, 2007 the I International Film Festival “Zerkalo” named after Andrei Tarkovsky took place. The festival was devoted to the 75th anniversary of the Master.
The program of the festival included competition of fiction films, screenings in all film art centers of Ivanovo, and also in towns Plyos, Yurievets, Shuya, Kineshma. Spectators in Ivanovo had an opportunity to visit gratuitous programs “New Russian Cinema”, “Tarkovsky forever”, “Tarkovsky without Tarkovsky. Fellow students, wards, followers”, “Tarkovsky with us”, “Forgotten movies”, “Actress-spring” (a retrospective screening of films with participation of the President of a film festival Inna Churikova), programs for children. Thus, during the festival 173 films were shown.
Within the limits of film-screenings 41 live talks with well-known Russian and foreign figures of cinema were organized.
The Opening and Closing ceremonies were the most spectacular events of the festival. They took place in a hall of Ivanovo musical theatre. On the square before a Palace of Arts a stele of International Film Festival “Zerkalo” named after Andrei Tarkovsky was opened.
Every day during the festival on Pushkin Square performances of different creative groups took place. The Opening and Closing ceremonies, fragments of films – participants of the festival and animation films, documentary films about Andrei Tarkovsky and clips about main events of the festival were shown on large screens.
On July, 11th, guests and participants of the festival visited the All-Russian fashion festival “Plyos on Volga. Linen palette”. At festival in Plyos a fashion-show of collection of linen cloth was organized, as well as a concert program on a Volga embankment and an exhibition and sale of products of folk-art crafts. Then guests and participants of IFF made a steam-ship travel from Plyos to Yurievets – hometown of Andrei Tarkovsky.
Spectacular dramatized performance on a square in Yurievets was just an emotional shock. The National symphonic orchestra of the Yaroslavl Philharmonic Society, the ballet group “Vozrozhdenie” (“Renaissance”), a circus group, collectives of the Ivanovo Philharmonic Society participated in a program “Returning”.
The new exposition of the museum center of A.Tarkovsky was opened in Yurievets.
The extensive excursion program was offered to guests and participants of the festival: they had an opportunity to visit museums of Ivanovo (a Regional Art Museum, a Regional Museum of Industry and Art named after D.G. Burylin, a museum of Ivanovo Printed Cotton, the Tsvetaevs’ museum), Palekh settlement, Khoui settlement (centers of lacquered miniature), Shuya.
On July, 9-12th, 2007 within the limits of a film festival an International Scientific conference “Andrey Tarkovsky's Phenomenon in an intellectual and art culture” was organized. Organizers of the conference were E.V.Tsymbal – film director, the winner of national cinema award “Nika” (years 2003 and 2007), the winner of BAFTA award and V.P.Okeansky – Doctor of Philology, professor, Head of the Department of Cultural Science in Shuya University. more than 50 Russian and foreign scientists and researches of Tarkovsky’s creativity participated in the conference. On the basis of the scientific conference materials the collection with the same name was published with a support of the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts “Nika”.
Within the limits of a film festival a guest session of the Committee of the Russian Federation State Duma concerning protection of objects of a cultural heritage of the Russian Federation and the Ivanovo region took place.
Two editions were presented: a collection “Our fellow countryman Andrei Tarkovsky” and a picture album “Andrei Tarkovsky in Alexander Antipenko’s objective”.
